WHITE PLAINS – The Ozone Park man who was driving a company box
truck north on I-95 in New Rochelle, striking a tow truck driver assisting
in a car breakdown, was sentenced by Westchester County Court Judge Barry
Warhit to the 12 months already served in the Westchester County Jail.

Anthony Mangano, 54, struck and killed Salvatore Brescia of Connecticut
as he stood in the right lane next to his tow truck.

Mangano pled guilty last December to the felony of leaving the scene of
a personal injury incident resulting in death.

After he struck Brescia, Mangano continued driving, got off I-95 north
and circled back to the scene. By then police and an ambulance had responded.
Mangano went through the toll plaza again, passed the scene and continued
northbound to Connecticut.

He did not stop to report his involvement or provide information to police.

An intensive investigation led to Mangano being identified as the driver
who left the scene.
