Woman charged with stealing tip jar money, slashing restaurant employees

LIBERTY – A woman, who allegedly stole from a tip jar at the Chinatown Kitchen restaurant on Route 52 in the Village of Liberty was arrested after employees detained her until police arrived.
The incident took place on Friday, November 23. Sandra Houghtaling, 24, of Liberty, is reported to have pulled a knife after allegedly stealing the tip jar from the counter and attempted to flee.  Houghtaling pulled the knife and swung it at the workers, cutting two of them.
Liberty Police took her into custody without incident.
Houghtaling was charged with armed robbery, and two counts of assaults, all as felonies, and misdemeanor petit larceny. She was sent to Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail.
