STOCKPORT – The son of a Stockport man has been charged with felony reckless endangerment after he shot his father in the pelvic area.
Billy Johnson was transported to Albany Medical Center where he underwent surgery and was reported in stable condition as of Monday evening.
When Columbia County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the scene at 33B Pats Lane in the Town of Stockport around 5:40 p.m. Sunday they found the son, Timothy, outside the residence where he made statements indicating he was responsible for the shooting. Police secured a search warrant for the residence and recovered a long rifle believed used in the shooting.
Timothy Johnson, 23, was sent to the Columbia County Jail in lieu of $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 bond.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the district attorney’s office, State Police and state Environmental Conservation Police.
During a deputy’s response to the shooting, Deputy Peter Merante, driving a police car, was traveling on Route 9H in the area County Route 20 and was struck by a car driven by Clifford Jean-Baptiste, 30, of Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Greenport Rescue Squad transported Deputy Merante to Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson for hip, leg, and back pain.
Jean-Baptiste and his passenger, Melissa De Pestre, were transported to the hospital by rescue squad for evaluation and later released.
Jean-Baptiste was ticketed for failure to yield right of way to an emergency vehicle.
Greenport Rescue Squad and West Ghent Fire Department assisted at the scene.
