CLARKSTOWN – The Clarkstown Police Department is currently investigating a couple of residential burglaries in the New City area that occurred in the past few weeks. We wanted to put out some basic burglary crime prevention tips that you could start making your daily routine to help minimize the change of becoming a victim. If you have any questions or would like to set up a community watch group please contact Community Police Officer Paul Valerio at 845-639-5980.

Walk around the exterior of your home and scout out its weaknesses.
Stow expensive items like grills, cars, and bikes in the garage.
Use curtains on garage and basement windows.
Install motion sensor lighting around your home, especially at entrances.
Get to know your neighbors.
Keep your yard free of toys, tools, and ladders.
Consider forming a neighborhood watch program.
Keep fences, gates, and garage doors locked
Install large, reflective numbers on your house and mailbox.
Keep all doors and windows closed and locked at all times.
Secure valuables in a home safe or lockbox.
Consider buying a home security system.
Double- and triple-check all doors and windows before you leave.
