WHITE PLAINS – An inmate in the Westchester County Jail was sentenced to seven years in state prison on two counts of felony assault.
John Wooten, 28, an inmate at the county jail, pled guilty to assaulting two county corrections officers, one in December 2017 and one in January 2018.
At the time, Wooten was in jail on a charge of felony criminal mischief for an incident committed at 25 Operations Drive in Mount Pleasant on December 19, 2017.
County Correction Commissioner Joseph Spano said the plea “sends a strong message – assaulting any member of our correctional staff is unacceptable and will be dealt with swiftly,” He said it will “also carry serious consequences, including a lengthy prison sentence.”
Spano said the “handling of these two assaults on correction officers demonstrates the continued collaboration between all sectors of Westchester’s law enforcement community.”
