Snow storm causes very slippery conditions, numerous accident

Rt.17 in Goshen

MID-HUDSON/CATSKILLS – So much for the forecast of three to five
inches of snow. How about 10 inches as of 7:30 P.M.?
If you don’t have to drive tonight, stay home.

In the Middletown area, three inches of snow fell within an hour.

The Route 17 area through Sullivan County, typically a difficult drive
in bad winter weather because of the hilly sections, is living up to its
reputation.

Travel is slow going with vehicles at a virtual standstill on some of
those hilly areas.

Snowplow crews are out trying to get ahead of the storm as tow trucks
respond to pull vehicles out of ditches.

The “official” snow ruler in the Town of Wallkill at 7:30
p.m.

On Spackenkill Road at Twin Hills Road in the Town of Poughkeepsie, an
Arlington Fire Department vehicle kidded off the road with no injuries.
In the City of Beacon, at Wolcott Avenue and Prospect Street a 10-vehicl;e
accident occurred with minor injuries.
The City of Kingston has declared a snow emergency effective 7 a.m. Friday.
Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus declared a state of emergency
because of the storm. It will remain in effect until 5 a.m. Friday..
