Second man arrested in Stockport house fire

STOCKPORT – A second man has been arrested in connection with an October 2017 house fire in the Town of Stockport. The arrest was made by way of a sealed indictment handed down from the Columbia County grand jury.
An October 1, 2017 fire destroyed a house at 290 County Route 25 in Stockport and it was later determined the fire was suspicious.
The investigation led to the arrest of William Travis, III, 31, of Stuyvesant, who was arrested on December 20, 2017. He was charged with a felony of arson and remains in the Columbia County Jail.
On Wednesday morning, sheriff’s investigators arrested Barry Goldstein, 74, at his home in the Town of Stockport. He was charged with insurance fraud, arson and reckless endangerment, all as felonies and was remanded to the Columbia County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond.
The Columbia County District Attorney’s office along with the county’s Cause and Origin Team and the state Office of Fire Protection and Control assisted the sheriff’s office with the investigation.
