Farrell:
“… a team effort …”

MIDDLETOWN – Like several other communities in the Hudson Valley/Catskill region, veterans were honored during Sunday’s Veterans Day ceremony in Middletown.
Jim Scali, commander of the local American Legion post, said veterans deserve the thanks of a grateful nation for their service.
“Because of your devotion to God and country, this island of liberty will continue,” Scali said. “Because of your sacrifice my generation and the generation of my children were able to grow up in a free society and achieve their dream and forge their own destinies.”
Middletown Mayor Joseph DeStefano noted we are all part of one nation and Veterans Day is a happy day.
“It’s a day to celebrate your service and your commitment to our country,” DeStefano said. “Last week we had another election and we don’t stand here as Democrats or Republicans. We stand here as Americans saying ‘thank you’ to all of you.”
Orange County Veterans Services Director Christian Farrell said American freedom is “a team effort” of those on the battlefield and those at home.
At age 34, Farrell joined the army just prior to 911 and served at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and in Iraq.
