MONTICELLO – The 2019
Sullivan County budget proposed today by County Manager Joshua Potosek
will decrease the average county property tax by 1.6 percent or roughly
$19 per $100,000 of assessed value.

A 4.5 percent increase in the county’s total taxable assessed value
is listed as the reason for the tax decline.

The $235 million spending plan stays under the state-mandated property
tax cap.

“As proposed by my office, the 2019 tentative Sullivan County budget
invests in what’s important to our residents: transportation access to
government, economic development, community beautification and broadband
connectivity,” said Potosek.

The spending plan includes $8.8 million for road and bridge work; an additional
$900,000 for the county land bank, $200,000 for towns and villages to
demolish unsafe buildings, $200,000 for an environmental analysis of potential
shovel-ready sites along Old Route 17 in the towns of Liberty and Thompson,
$200,000 for a broadband pilot project, and $150,000 for new public transportation
routes.
