WASHINGTON – Fresh off a victory and going into a House of Representatives that will hold a Democratic majority, Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney (D, NY-18) said Wednesday that when he returns to Washington, he will concentrate on the issues and fight for his Mid-Hudson constituents.
Maloney, who has over the past two years, refrained from criticizing President Trump, said he will continue to work with both sides of the aisle.
“What I hear from people is they think Washington is all screwed up and they want change and they want us to get things done. That’s why I’m not going back there to fight with anyone or contribute to this chaos and nonsense that goes on down there. I am going to be focused on getting results and I think that is the best thing we can do to help our communities and also our politics.”
Returning to Washington as a member of the House majority will mean more money coming back to the Mid-Hudson Valley, Maloney said.
“My role in the majority will be to speed up implementation of life-saving technology to avoid train derailments, to speed up rail access on the Tappan Zee [Mario Cuomo] Bridge, to get more money for local roads and bridges and our water systems which are in desperate need of investment, to bring more resources to superfund site cleanup like the one we have going on right now in Hopewell Junction, to make sure nobody cooks up another dumb idea like putting 43 new oil barge anchorage sites on the Hudson River,” he said.
He also wants to explore more transportation options for the district including better options connecting Newburgh to the Beacon train station and a potential overhead tram.
Maloney had high praise for fellow Democrat Antonio Delgado, who captured the adjacent 19th District seat, ousting two-term Republican John Faso.
