GOSHEN – In the wake of the massacre at the Tree of Life Jewish Synagogue in Pittsburgh on Saturday, Orange County Sheriff Carl DuBois said on Monday that while it is up to individual houses of worship, they may want to consider security during services.
Eleven people were murdered and six others were wounded when an anti-Semitic gunman opened fire during a Saturday morning service at the Pennsylvania house of worship.
DuBois said unfortunately in this day and age, one must fight fire with fire.
“How do you stop deadly physical force and there is only one answer, it’s deadly physical force and unfortunately this is the world we live in and as with the schools, we leave it up to the boards of education the school superintendents what they believe will keep their buildings safe and I will give the same option to houses of worship,” the sheriff said. “If they feel they need that type of security, then yes, they should do it.”
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office continues to offer its free “Operation Arc-Angel” where members of their special operations group will go into houses of worship and train the parishioners on what to do in the event of an active shooter situation.
Persons interested should call Sgt. John Trazino at 845-291-7900 or email him at jtrazino@orangecountygov.com
