NEW CITY – Rockland County Health Commissioner Dr. Patricia Ruppert has sent a letter to schools that were attended by students with confirmed cases of measles telling them that unvaccinated students should remain home.
The letter requires students in those schools who are not vaccinated to stay home as of October 18.
There are currently 11 confirmed cases of measles in Rockland County. Another three suspected cases are under review.
Ruppert has been designated by State Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker
as having the authority to order schools in Rockland to take appropriate
steps to protect the students in the county. The designation remains in
place through December 31.
Students are considered protected against measles if they have received Measles Mumps-Rubella vaccine. Unless otherwise indicated, two doses of the vaccine are required for a student to remain in school.
