NEWBURGH – Mold remediation
continues on Sakac Hall dormitory at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh.

When the problem was discovered, as a health safety measure the building
was evacuated and alternate arrangements were made for the students living
there.

Of the 214 residents, about 60 have chosen to continue their studies from
home this week, college spokesman Matthew Frey said. The rest have returned
to campus and are living in alternate housing including with upperclassmen,
in the garden apartments and in a residence hall on campus.
All students moved out of hotels where they were placed last week.

Frey said academic programs are continuing either through the college’s
eClass online communication system or through other methods determined
by the faculty.

The Mount is working with a licensed mold remediation contractor as well
as Adaptive Environmental Consulting Group, an industrial hygiene firm
that specializes in educational and healthcare facilities.

Frey said the remediation process is focused on eliminating the causes
and keeping it from recurring.
