TOWN OF BETHEL – A traffic stop on Hurd Road in the Town of Bethel
Monday afternoon led to the arrest of the driver on three felony counts
of marijuana possession.

In all, Sullivan County Sheriff’s deputies seized 147 pounds of
the drug with an estimated value $500,000.

When a deputy pulled over Ibere Calvo, 58, of Swan Lake, he smelled a
pungent odor or marijuana and a search of Calvo’s 2011 Ford pickup
truck yielded 15 pounds of pot.

Working with Bethel constables, deputies identified two locations tied
to Calvo. At 491 Hurd Road, investigators found 92 pounds of marijuana
and at 54 Laymon Road they seized another 40 pounds.

Calvo was arraigned before Bethel Town Judge Kevin Rhyne and remanded
to the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $35,000 bail.
