NEW CITY – The 2019 proposed
budget released Monday by Rockland County Executive Edwin Day stays under
the state’s property tax cap while funding not-for-profits, law
enforcement and reviving the Office for People with Disabilities. Watch
the budget presentation
Taxes would rise just over $3 per month for the average residential property owner under his plan.
Among the funding in Day’s $709 million spending plan is money for law enforcement and public safety, namely a new mobile command vehicle, mobile data terminals, upgraded BCI operating and forensic equipment, an elevator upgrade and building improvements, and improvements to the jail security control systems, all for the sheriff’s office.
The budget also calls for money to be set aside for union contract negotiations.
Day’s budget proposal, which now goes to the county legislature, includes no layoffs but 28 vacant positions would be eliminated.
