It should come as no surprise when a notable of a particular political party endorses a candidate of that same party. But, when the endorsement comes from the highest levels, it is of note. Former President Barack Obama endorsed Democrats James Skoufis, Jennifer Metzger and Karen Smythe for Mid-Hudson Valley seats in the New York State Senate in next month’s elections.

The New York State AFL-CIO endorsed Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney for the 18th District and Jonathan Jacobson for the 104th State Assembly District. Both are Democrats.

Democratic 99th District Assembly candidate Matthew Rettig has been endorsed by the New York State AFL-CIO. He also called for an investigation into a $2 million State Senate grant to the Village of Kiryas Joel.

Preserve Blooming Grove, a non-partisan community organization, endorsed Republican Colin Schmitt for Assembly in the 99th District.
