NEW CITY – An attorney with offices in West Nyack, who was appointed as a special prosecutor by the Spring Valley Village Board in 2016, was sentenced in Clarkstown Town Court to two years of probation on his guilty plea to one count official misconduct.
Lawrence Weissman, 56, of Sloatsburg, was hired to review traffic tickets and zoning violations for the village. Former trustee Vilair Fonvil proposed Weissman for the post.
Weissman admitted to submitting false documentation to a village judge to justify giving favorable plea dispositions at the behest of Fonvil, who attended plea negotiating sessions, met with individuals facing traffic charges, and, on occasion, directed Weissman to dispose of charges.
Weissman was sentenced by Clarkstown Judge David Ascher.
