POUGHKEEPSIE – Sprout
Creek Farm’s cow’s milk cheeses, Margie,” made on August
28, are being voluntarily recalled due to improper pasteurization, the
state Department of Agriculture and Markets reported Friday. The farm
is located in LaGrange.

Proper pasteurization heats milk to effectively eliminate all pathogenic
bacteria, such as Listeria and Salmonella.

To date, no illnesses were reported to the state agency in connection
with this product.

The recalled cheese pertains only to “Margie” cheese with
a make date of August 18 and a best by date of November 12, 2018.

Sprout Creek has been in contact with distributors and markets to immediately
remove this batch of cheese from their shelves.

The product was distributed at:
• Baldor Foods statewide
• Simons Catering in Dutchess County
• Walbridge Farm Market in Dutchess County
• Cold Spring Cheese Shop in Putnam County
• Turning Stone Resort in Oneida County
• Mohonk Mountain House in Ulster County
• Hudson Valley Harvest statewide
• Nic L Inn in Dutchess County

Routine inspection conducted by state Ag and Markets found that this lot
of product was improperly pasteurized.

Consumers with questions should contact Sister Margo Morris at Sprout
Creek Farm at 845-485-8438, extension 104.
