Norwegian jet passes passes the Stewart control tower

STEWART AIRPORT – Norwegian Airlines is terminating its Edinburgh and Belfast service from New York Stewart International Airport near Newburgh.  Flights to Dublin and Shannon, Ireland and Bergen, Norway will continue.
Stewart Airport Commission Chairman Louis Heimbach is concerned by the
announcement.
“I’m very disappointed that the projections that Norwegian made didn’t come to pass and I am certainly pleased that they are still here for many flights, but those are very important destinations for us and I hope they can, someday, be replaced,” Heimbach said.
US Norwegian Director of Communications Anders Lindstrom said the Edinburgh flights were launched with the prospect of a reduction in air passenger taxes that was “unfortunately postponed” by the Scottish Government. That has “forced us to fully withdraw our transatlantic services to/from Edinburgh as it would not be a sustainable operation,” Lindstrom said.
The last flight from Stewart to Edinburgh is scheduled to depart March 29, 2019.
Norwegian is also discontinuing Stewart to Belfast service after this season.
The European discount airline began service to New York Stewart International in June 2017 prompting the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to speed up plans to build a segregated international arrivals wing on the passenger terminal.
