Monticello schools close because of social media threat

MONTICELLO – Monticello school district officials closed all schools today after a social media threat was posted on Thursday.
A person using the name “blaxckhood” posted on Instagram, “I am going to shoot up Monticello High School, Middle school/elementary school on 9/21/18 get ready!”
The district is investigating with the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office. Monticello Police requested subpoenas for tracking electronic communication and IP addresses.
In a sheriff’s office posting on Facebook, the agency said they have been informed that the identity of the person may be known in the social media community. “We are asking that anyone with information about this subject to call the sheriff’s confidential TIPS line at 845-807-0158 or the main number at 845-794-7100. All calls will be kept confidential.
There is also no school for Monticello students who attend school in other locations.
