Warwick native shot and killed at work upstate

DEWITT – A man, who grew up in Warwick, was one of two Chili’s
restaurant employees shot and killed by a robber in DeWitt on September
15.

Local police charged William Wood, Jr., 32, of Syracuse, a former employee
at the restaurant, with shooting Hicks and Stephen Gudknecht, 37, to death
around 1 a.m. on Saturday. Hicks was a cook and a server and Gudknecht
was the manager.

Wood stole $875 from the restaurant, police said.
Hicks was a 2007 graduate of Warwick High School. He was the son of Kevin
and Kathleen Neilan Hicks.

A family statement read: “Kris was a determined self-made man who
loved his family, friends and animals, especially cats. We will forever
miss his smile and sense of humor.”

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 22 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
at T.S. Purta Funeral Home in the Village of Florida. A funeral service
will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
