A granite memorial bears the names of Putnam’s 9/11 victims
CARMEL – Putnam County’s annual September 11 candlelight vigil at Cornerstone Park in downtown Carmel attracted a huge crowd Tuesday evening to remember the county’s eight ‘heroes’ who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.
A bell tolled after the name of each of the brave men was enumerated: Christopher Blackwell, George Cain, Danny Harlin, Thomas Kuveikis and Robert Minara – all members of the FDNY; Stephen Driscoll, a member of the NYPD; David Lawrence William Fodor, of Fiduciary Trust and George Paris of Cantor Fitzgerald.
The ceremony had added meaning this year when the names of seven men – all local residents who have passed away as a result of their actions in the aftermath of the 9-11 attacks, were also recited by Eric Gross.
The names are listed on a 375-pound granite monument and include former FDNY members Edward Tietjen and John Vaughan, both of Mahopac; Brewster residents Thomas Van Doran of the FDNY and Glenn Bisogono of the Brewster FD; Thomas Kelly of the FDNY and Charles Flickinger of the Lake Carmel FD, both former residents of the Town of Kent.
This year, a new name was added to the list remembering the life of Inspector
Donald Feser of Carmel, a 37-year career member of the NYPD.
