Former fire department treasurer pleads guilty to stealing over $300,000

WHITE PLAINS – A former Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department chief
and a former a former Croton-on-Hudson police officer, who most recently
served as the fire department treasurer, has pled guilty to grand larceny
as a crime of public corruption, for stealing over $300,000 from the Croton-on-Hudson
Fire Department.

At the time of his plea Wednesday before Westchester County Court Judge
Michael Martinelli, Gerald Munson, 64, paid restitution of $124,383 added
to the $25,000 he paid when arraigned.

He is scheduled to be sentenced next month and is expected to pay the
remainder of the restitution and be sentenced to 1 ½ to 4 ½
years in state prison.

Munson stole money while he was responsible for maintaining the fire department
bank account and financial records despite having no prior qualifications
or background in accounting or financial matters.

The felony complaint alleged that he stole approximately $312,925 from
the fire department.

Croton-on-Hudson Village Police arrested Munson this past June.
