NEWBURGH – A parking enforcement
officer employed by the City of Newburgh has been reprimanded for leaving
his city vehicle unsecured, only to have it stolen.
It was a couple of weeks ago when the employee left the key in the ignition
while the vehicle was unattended, only to find that within minutes, a
man jumped in and drove it away.
The vehicle was recovered with only the employee’s personal items
stolen, said Police Chief Douglas Solomon.
He said a DPW employee witnessed the incident, but was unable to get a
good look at the suspect.
The incident remains under investigation and the city employee was disciplined
internally for leaving the car unsecured, Solomon said.
