SAUGERTIES – A sophomore at Onteora High School was arrested by Saugerties Police and charged with the felony of making a terroristic threat.
Alexander McLain, 18, a resident of the Village of Saugerties, allegedly wrote a Facebook post saying, “I wanna just go to the gd (God damn) school and shoot it up run (right now.) I don’t give a f**k if I go to jail.”
Saugerties Police began an investigation to identify McLain working with the Onteora and Saugerties schools superintendents’ offices, and school resource officers in both schools.
McLain, who now lives in Saugerties, admitted to police that he made the post and several others, saying he was directing his anger toward Onteora High School because of a recent communication he received. Investigation by police determined he did not own any firearms.
Saugerties police, with assistance from the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office, charged McLain on Saturday with the felony of making a terrorist threat. He was sent to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $75,000 bond.
A stay away order of protection was issued on behalf of the Onteora Central School District.
