HIGHLAND – Bridges in the New York metropolitan area are being converted to cashless tolling where motorists are either billed automatically through their E-ZPass accounts or if they don’t have one, they are mailed a bill.
Even the new Mario Cuomo Bridge over the Hudson River is going cashless.
To the north, the five bridges operate by the New York State Bridge Authority are not likely to see that form of toll collecting in the near future, said Executive Director Joseph Ruggiero.
“The tolling that is happening on the other facilities around the state, I don’t know when we will be required to go to it, but right now that is not in the conversation,” Ruggiero said.
A few of the Mid-Hudson bridges with lesser nighttime traffic have been
converted to automated toll collecting overnight and that has been working
well, Ruggiero said.
