KINGSTON – A Rochester man, who was stopped for a traffic infraction while driving on the Thruway northbound in the Town of Plattekill early in the morning on December 3, 2017, was sentenced in Ulster County Court on Wednesday to 12 years in state prison for his possession of 2.8 pounds of cocaine.
Ricardo Almenteros was also sentenced to five years of post-release supervision on his conviction to first-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.
The drugs, in brick form, were found hidden in the air intake compartment of his engine. The brick had an identifying mark of “OSO” (bear in Spanish), which is believed to be an identifier of the Sinaloa Cartel in Culiacan Mexico.
Almenteros has a 2011 federal felony conviction for conspiracy to distribute cocaine.
