TOWN OF WAPPINGER – A
30-year-old Wappinger woman was killed as she was walking and was struck
by a vehicle at the intersection of Old Hopewell Road and Route 9 in the
Town of Wappinger around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday.
State Police said initial investigation suggests that Graciela Gonzalez
attempted to cross Route 9 from the west shoulder in an easterly direction.
The operator of a Volkswagen Jetta traveling southbound on Route 9 through
a green traffic light at the intersection, failed to see Gonzalez, striking
and killing her.
No criminal charges were lodges at this time.
The investigation is ongoing and police ask anyone who witnessed the accident
