YONKERS – Westchester County’s contract with Liberty Lines, operator of the county’s Bee-Line mass transit service, expires at the end of the year so county officials, Monday, announced a five-year extension to the public-private partnership.
Latimer said the deal comes with a flat fee of $136 million that peaks in 2023.
“We do that in order to have predictability as we deal with our budget. We know we have a budget problem for 2019, but we can’t solve problems by kicking cans down the road and so it makes sense for us to try to lock things in so we can predict what our costs will be in 2020 and 2021 and beyond that which will fall into the next administrative term,” Latimer said.
Liberty Lines employees 700 people and last year provided 27 million rides on 58 routes.
The new contract will save the county taxpayers $20 million over the five-year period.
