MID-HUDSON – From Yonkers to Rensselaer, train stations on Amtrak’s
Empire Corridor and Metro-North’s Hudson Line were visited on Tuesday
by local and state law enforcement as part of a counter-terrorism and
incident response exercise.

The events were coordinated by the State Division of Homeland Security
and Emergency Services.

State Counter-Terrorism Director Staff Inspector Robert Willis was onsite
in the region noting the message to riders is if they see something, they
should say something.

“We are doing these randomly and will continue to do them for the
foreseeable future,” he said. Police K-9s joined officers at the
stations.

The events are to familiarize riders with law enforcement and for people
to be comfortable with seeing law enforcement at train stations, Willis
said.

The mass Tuesday event was not in response to any threat, Willis said.

Law enforcement was out bright and early Tuesday at stations in Yonkers,
Tarrytown, Croton-Harmon, Peekskill, Poughkeepsie, New Hamburg, Beacon,
Rhinecliff, Hudson and Rensselaer.
