NEWBURGH – Police released the details of a fatal motorcycle-car accident in the City of Newburgh on Tuesday evening.
Officers said initial reports indicate the operator of the cycle was traveling on the wrong side of the street at a high rate of speed just after 7 p.m. when he struck the car head-on.
The 25-year-old male operator of the motorcycle died at the scene. The occupants of the car were treated and released for minor injuries at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital. Police are withholding the name of the cyclist and car driver.
Right after the accident occurred, a large crowd formed near 355 South William Street prompting city police to call backup from New Windsor and Town of Newburgh Police, State Police and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
The driver of the car was issued a traffic ticket for unlicensed operation.
New Windsor Police performed an accident reconstruction and the Orange County District Attorney’s Office is assisting in the ongoing investigation.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Newburgh City Police detectives at 845-569-7509.
