Motorcyclist killed in head-on crash with car in Newburgh

NEWBURGH – Police have released the details of a fatal motorcycle-car
accident in the City of Newburgh on Tuesday evening.

Officers said initial reports indicate the operator of the cycle was traveling
on the wrong side of the street at a high rate of speed just after 7 p.m.
when he struck the car head-on.

The 25-year-old male operator of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at
the scene. The occupants of the car were treated and released for minor
injuries at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital.

Right after the accident occurred, a large crowd formed in the area of
355 South William Street prompting city police to call backup from New
Windsor and Town of Newburgh Police, State Police and the Orange County
Sheriff’s Office.

The driver of the car was issued a traffic ticket for unlicensed operation.

New Windsor Police performed an accident reconstruction and the Orange
County District Attorney’s Office is assisting in the ongoing investigation.

Police are withholding the name of the motorist and the driver of the
car.
