KINGSTON – Woodstock resident Robert Burhans was on his way home from Kingston when he stopped at the Stewart’s Shop for some soda and bought a Mega Millions ticket for the July 10th game.
He checked the numbers the following day and they “started matching up and I knew I won,” he said on Thursday as he was presented with an oversized ceremonial check for $1 million as a second prize winner. “At least now I can’t say I’ve never won,” he said.
The prize is paid in one lump sum so Burhans will take home $671,800 after required withholdings. He plans to use his winnings to take a vacation. “It just feels nice not to have to worry about money anymore,” he said.
The winning Mega Millions numbers for the July 10 drawing were 1-17-28-56-70 and Mega Ball 14.
