PORT JERVIS – The Orange County City of Port Jervis sits on the border of Pennsylvania and the northern-most point of New Jersey. Adjacent communities in all three states joined together for a unified National Night Out Against Crime on Thursday evening since the scheduled Tuesday event was postponed because of thunderstorms.
Police officers and vehicles, public officials and community volunteers welcomed residents of all three areas for an evening to get to know their law enforcement members better, noted Port Jervis Police Chief William Worden.
“It’s about community unity. Our theme is unity on the Delaware, Worden said. “We linked the Tri-State communities of Port Jervis, Matamoras, Montague, New Jersey. We had the three states here and it’s about promoting unity and improving the quality of life for our region.”
Other communities around the Hudson Valley held their Night Out events as scheduled on Tuesday evening.
