Commissioner Gleason briefs reporters on
the apparent murder-suicide
VALHALLA – A shooting at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla
this morning (Wednesday) has left a female patient and a man dead in a
fourth-floor patient room, police said.
Westchester Police Commissioner Thomas Gleason said both victims were
in their 70s and police were unsure exactly what the familial relationship
was.
A .38-caliber gun was found in the room. The woman was found in a bed
and the man, who was a visitor, was on the floor.
Gleason and hospital Chief Administrative Officer Kara Bennorth stressed
there was no danger at any time to other patients, staff or visitors.
Within minutes of a nurse hearing the gunshots and notifying police, officers
and security were on the scene.
The weapon used was licensed to the man, Gleason said.
