CORNWALL – The New York Military Academy in Cornwall expects to save a sizeable amount of money now that the state has approved the school to obtain no-interest loans through the New York State Dormitory Authority.
The secondary level military school needs to upgrade infrastructure including dormitories, a new water main and other facilities, said Assistant Superintendent Jonathan Gastel.
“We have some other historic buildings on our campus, ones for instance President Trump stayed in when he first came to the New York Military Academy which we would like to bring back as well as dorms, as classroom space, to help, not only our campus, but also help us become a regional center for similar programs throughout the metropolitan area,” he said.
Gastel said the school board of trustees has not yet decided how much they would like to take on at once, so the price tag could range from $3 million to $12 million.
