WASHINGTON – New York’s junior senator says she has bipartisan support in her effort to restore historic preservation funding cut from the Fiscal 2019 budget by President Trump.
Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), Tuesday, said she is working with
Louisiana Republican Bill Cassidy to restore a big hunk of money.
“Our bipartisan amendment would increase funding for historic preservation to $96.91 million.  This is a much higher that what was requested by President Trump in his budget.”
The senator said if the funding makes it into the budget, it would leverage two big benefits.
“It attracts huge amounts of private investment and it ends up bringing in tourists and ends up creating jobs.”
Gillibrand said there is an abundance of old buildings in New York State that can be put to new use, including train stations, warehouses and factories.
