Still no clear explanation of why
Vasquez was suddenly detained

KINGSTON – The Hudson Valley regional director of the New York Civil Liberties Union is not pleased with the sudden detention of Kingston chef Juan Carlos Vasquez.
A legal alien working for over two years at the Anchor Restaurant and Pub in Kingston, he was taken into custody by members of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency recently. Reports indicate it may have been over a past DWI charge.
New York Civil Liberties Union Regional Director Shannon Wong is dismayed by the process.
“People have been following what they thought were the rules, showing up for their appointments every six months and then because the rules changed, they are surprised when they get to those appointments and they are just detained,” Wong said.
Friends of Vasquez have been attempting to ascertain what the issue is
that led to his detention and have been working to secure an attorney
to represent him.
