Two candidates run for Greene County coroner posts

CATSKILL – Two Democrats will vie for the two Greene County coroner positions in the November election. The county has four elected coroner positions and every two years, two are elected to four-year terms.
“In recent memory, no one can recall there being competition in the coroner races,” said Doreen Davis, County Democratic Party chairwoman.
Candidate Joshua Lipson, 61, is a medical doctor specializing in public health and preventive medicine who moved to Athens in 2007. He is a former Westchester County health commissioner, an attorney, and a small businessman.
Candidate Robert Gaus, 61, of Coxsackie, has been a state-licensed funeral director since 1978 and currently manages the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home in Catskill. He previously collaborated with the Ulster County Medical Examiner’s Office in a number of capacities while owning a funeral home in Kingston.
Both men also have endorsements from the Greene County Independence Party, the Working Families Part and the Women’s Equality Party.
