WEST HARRISON – Two long-time buddies, who pool their money and buy New York State Lottery tickets, hit the big one with the $5 million jackpot on the “Set For Life” scratch-off game.
“We’re more like brothers than friends,” said Salvatore Garro, 63, of White Plains, of his friendship with Dominick Belfiore, 66, of West Harrison.
Last month Garro went out to buy their daily tickets including the Set For Life scratch-off and when he saw the result, “I scratched off the jackpot and I was so shocked I started crying,” Garro said.
The men have opted to receive their prize as a one-time lump sum. Each will receive over $1.2 million after taxes.
The men said they plan to use their winnings to buy vacation homes in Florida and take care of their families.
