Broge

GOSHEN – Orange County Democratic Party Chairman Brett Broge, who had announced he would run for the 99th State Assembly post and recently filed petitions to be placed on four ballot lines in November, has filed with the state Board of Elections declining the candidacy.
He had filed petitions to get on the Democrat, Working Families, Independence and Women’s Equality lines, but now has filed a formal declination.
Broge told Mid-Hudson News Tuesday had no one stepped forward, he would have stayed in the race, but with new expressions of interest, his vacancy committee, which consists of three people including himself, a replacement will be formally named.
“I think it is certainly vital in this period of political history that we as Democrats not let any seat go unchallenged, and I would certainly would have done that had I not had anyone else come forward,” he said.
All Broge would say at this point was that the new candidate is a male political newcomer.
Whoever that person is will face Republican Colin Schmitt, who will also appear on the Conservative, Independence and the Reform Party lines.
