NEW WINDSOR – A New Windsor Town Police officer sustained a leg injury when a suspect struck him with his car.
Officers Francis Pierri and Steven Bohr observed a vehicle driving southbound on Route 9W Sunday afternoon committing several traffic violations.
After they stopped the car, they saw crack cocaine in the center console and asked the driver, Khachatur Ziroyan, 26, of Monroe, to step out of the vehicle. When Ziroyan put the car in gear, he struck Officer Pierri and tried to swallow the crack cocaine.
Officer Bohr reached into the vehicle, put it into park and arrested Ziroyan. He was charged with assault and tampering with physical evidence as felonies and misdemeanors of possession of drugs, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration and reckless endangerment. Ziroyan was sent to the Orange County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.
