MONTICELLO – Sullivan County continues to get good grades for how it handles its money.  External auditors presented their annual overview to the county legislature, meeting in executive committee, on Thursday.
County Manager Joshua Potosek said no major issues were found despite coming out of a recession:
“Really seen our finances improve.  We’re stabilized and we’re at where we probably should be.”
Potosek said one component that has improved significantly is the unappropriated fund balance.
“That’s sitting at around 26-million, a little, just as comparison, back in 2014, that was at about 8.7-million.”
Potosek said an improving economy, and county officials keeping a hand on expenses made that possible.
The fund balance is where it should be, at about 15 percent of total expenditures.
