WHITE PLAINS – A Mount Vernon was arrested for grand larceny after she allegedly stole her dead mother’s pension totaling over $60,000 to pay cell phone bills, a car loan, insurance and utility bills.
Rochelle Rose, 40, allegedly kept her late mother’s bank account open for two years to collect her pension payments.
“Ms. Rose thought she could deceive the retirement system and live off her deceased mother’s pension,” said State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli. “Now, due to my partnership with District Attorney (Anthony) Scarpino, she is being held accountable for her actions. This case sends a clear message to those who would exploit a relative’s death and steal pension benefits from the New York State and Local Retirement System.”
