GOSHEN – Businessmen who want to purchase the 1,200-acre Tuxedo Farm property off Route 17 in the Town of Tuxedo met with top Orange County officials on Thursday to lay out their plans for a Draggon’s Gate interactive theme park destination.
Tuxedo Town Supervisor Michael Rost was in on the meeting in Goshen.
He said afterwards that discussions with the current landowner, Related
Companies, are very preliminary.
Rost said they were given an idea what the park would be about.
“There are going to be six different outdoor themes – Stonehenge could be one, Roman time could be one, where they would have people walking – kind of like a souped-up Renaissance Fair is the best way to explain it,” the supervisor said.
That fair, held in the Sterling Forest area of Tuxedo late every summer, takes visitors back to medieval times with re-enactors doing everything from horseback jousting to offering food and drink of that period.
If Draggon’s Gate was to be built, there would be discussions with the Thruway Authority about developing a new exit to accommodate traffic. At present, there are Thruway exits at Suffern to the south and Harriman to the north.
Draggon’s Gate would be the second theme park in Orange County.  Legoland is in early construction in the Town of Goshen, after similar discussions, including access from Route 17.
