NEWBURGH – The problem of inadequate affordable housing in the City of Newburgh was addressed Thursday evening as the Hudson Valley organizer for Community Voices Heard met with renters.
Juanita Lewis said the problem goes beyond the Hudson Valley.
“Housing is a national crisis all the way from rents being high to landlord issues, to new developments and what is going to happen to local residents,” Lewis said. “That is a concern now across the country and now we have a new administration that doesn’t look kind to subsidized housing or low income housing or affordable housing; there are different changes happening that people are impacted by.”.
Issues discussed included repairs not being performed by landlords, landlord harassment, not finding an apartment a person can afford and not having their voice heard as a tenant.
