NEW YORK – A Rockland County man was sentenced in federal court on Wednesday to 10 years in prison for distributing heroin and other narcotics, including heroin that caused serious bodily injury to a victim who overdosed from using the drug and was revived with Narcan.
Robert Diaz, 50, also known as “Facey” and “Face,” of Haverstraw, pled guilty in February before US Magistrate Judge Debra Freeman.
According to the indictment, court documents and court proceedings, Diaz and eight co-defendants were charged with participating in a drug trafficking organization that distributed large quantities of drugs, including heroin, fentanyl, cocaine, and crack cocaine, in and around Rockland County, and obtaining those drugs for resale from the Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens.
Diaz sold retail quantities of drugs to users in Rockland from 2012 to May 2017. On December 15, 2016, he provided heroin to an individual who overdosed after using the drug. Medical personnel revived the victim with Narcan. On several occasions Diaz indicated he was aware that the narcotics he and others distributed contained fentanyl and were very dangerous, causing adverse reactions in several drug customers including the person who overdosed.
In addition to the prison time, Diaz, was sentenced to four years of supervised release.
