PORT JERVIS – The City of Port Jervis will spend $3,000 to conduct a survey of the impact of bats on creation of a whitewater park on the Delaware River.
The city’s report to the Army Corps of Engineers has been submitted with the federal agency, which governs work on the nation’s waterways, returning its response, said Mayor Kelly Decker.
“The Army Corps of Engineers came back and they had a few things that need to be addressed,” Decker said. “What we had set up with our engineers, almost everything was covered except for that bat study.”
The bats, which inhabit trees, could be impacted by development of the
park, including removal of trees, thus precipitating the required study
on the impact of bats.
