Powell

MONTICELLO – Monticello police arrested a Woodridge man on Wednesday with help from a K9 after the man they wanted refused to surrender. Derik Powell, 29, of Woodridge was charged with two counts of obstructing governmental administration, criminal mischief and resisting arrest, all misdemeanors and the violation of disorderly conduct.
Monticello officers observed Powell acting out in an erratic manner on Broadway early Wednesday morning. Powell was yelling and screaming profanities while on a sidewalk. He then picked up a garbage can and threw it into the roadway.
Powell violently struggled and fought with officers attempting to handcuff him. K9 Officer Matthew Rohner arrived and released his K9 partner Deca who brought Powell to the ground. After a second taser, Powell was taken into custody and sent to the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $5000 cash bail or $10,000 secured bond.
