PORT EWEN – Family, friends and colleagues of longtime Ulster County Sheriff Office Sgt. Harry Van Vliet III will be held beginning today.  VanVliet, of Port Ewen, died last Saturday at age 81.
VanVliet was a member of this agency during the 1970’s, having left with the rank of First Sergeant. His son, Harry VanVliet IV, also retired from this agency in late 2007 at the rank of Captain.
The VanVliet family will receive friends at the Gilpatric-VanVliet Funeral Home, 339 Broadway, Ulster Park, Town of Esopus today from 3:00 pm to 6:45 pm, followed by a prayer service. In honor of Harry’s wishes, please attend in comfortable, casual attire.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Friday, July 6th, at Sacred Heart Church, 1055 Broadway, Esopus. There is no procession to church. Cremation and inurnment in the family plot at Montrepose Cemetery will be private at a later date.
